Dr. Daniel is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Departments of Ophthalmology, Anatomy of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering, at the College of Design & Engineering of National University of Singapore. He is also Principal Investigators at the Neurobiology Program and Center for Innovation & Precision Eye Health (InVision). He is an interdisciplinary scientist in developing technologies to vision loss therapeutics, cancer and  (eg. wireless photodynamic therapy), nanoprobes for visualization of cellular and molecular processes. He pioneered the work of Near-Infrared wireless implantable using upconversion technology for the application of tether free photodynamic therapy (PDT) and optogenetics. In InVision, he is working to translate optogenetics and light based therapeutics from preclinical research to bedside for aged-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. He co-founded Ascension Onco-Therapeutics Pte. Ltd, a Singapore based spin-off to bring PDT to the clinics.
